Our school recently held its annual interscholastic poetry contest, celebrating creativity, self-expression, and literary talent among its students. Participants from various schools from the country showcased original poems covering a wide range of themes, including nature, identity, love, and social issues. The event fostered a supportive environment, encouraging students to share their voices and appreciate the art of poetry.
A panel of guest judges evaluated the entries based on originality, emotional impact, and literary quality. The event concluded with a public reading of selected poems, leaving the audience inspired and reinforcing the importance of artistic expression in education.
As for the play, this year’s senior students’ work was a reply to one of the poems they read in class, “The River Merchant’s Wife: A Letter” by Modernist writer Ezra Pound. They first provided the audience with the poem itself and its context in a forum-like discussion, and later performed what they wrote as a response to “the wife” in the voice of the absent “husband”.
